Glen Canyon Dam


Glen Canyon Dam has been the spark for hundreds of debates, rallies, and protests. These debates have been going on for almost forty years. The dam itself is said to be almost worthless; it doesn't provide constant power for anyone. The power is used only for emergencies and during peek usage times. Environmentalists are outraged because the dam created a huge lake when it was built. The anti-dam side of the debate has its basis in the fact that Lake Powell is currently covering Glen Canyon. Glen Canyon was said to be one of the prettiest canyons in the United States. It was so remote few people got to witness its splendor. This is one of the reasons the dam was built in the first place - ignorance, the majority of the public didn't know about its impact on the environment.

On the other hand, thousands of people frequent Lake Powell and many depend on its tourists for income.
