Teaching Philosophy

I believe that every person is a student. Whether in a high school classroom or on a city street, there is always something new that can be learned. However, it is sometimes easier to gain knowledge in the structured environment of a school. A school is more than a building, though. A school is a structure of teachers and pupils engaged in the task of learning.

As a teacher, it will be my responsibility to guide my students through their learning. I will point them in the direction of a new fact and help them find it on their own. I will do my best not to stand in front of the classroom everyday simply stating theorems and examples for my students to memorize. Instead, I will observe them to learn when they need to be instructed and when they need to discover on their own; when they need more structure and when they need more independence; when they need discipline and when they need reward. I will do my best to meet these needs and assist my students with any other obstacles they may encounter. I will treat my students with respect and will expect my students to treat me with respect. Everyday I will learn something new from my students, just as they will learn from me.
