The Pros and Cons of Technology Today
Technology has always been an important part of life since the 19th century industrial revolution. Through the years this advances grew until we got to the most important piece of technology in today's society, the computer. Computers are present in every area of our lives. They help save lives in the medical field, they have connected the world making it is a smaller place. Our economy relay in computers, cash registers, banks, the stock market. This is where things that people in the past could not even dream about. Of course along with the good comes the bad, we know how to protect our computer because they are also a liability. They can also be a mean for hackers, and cyber-terrorist to harm people, from cleaning out someone bank account, to crashing a plain. It is a trade off, like must things in life. Although the technology created in the 19th century industrial revolution, is not similar to today's technology there are many similarities among them, specially in the effect they produced in people's life. Computers have eliminated the need for people in many jobs, since they can perform better and more efficiently, but it also created a huge new field with plenty of jobs available from programmers, to technicians. The same thing happened in the 19th century, factories also eliminated many jobs since the machinery allowed massive production of things that before people produce by hand and, in small quantities, like textiles. However, factories also created new jobs, such as machinery operators, repair man, management, etc. Another similarity, 20th century technology puts the countries whom posses above the rest of the countries, it gives them an advantage in the market, and ones this technology has been used it is very hard for other countries to catch up. This effect is a continuation of the effect the 19th century industrial revolution had in the world, where countries like Britain, who had the technology got ahead a lot faster. It makes sense since the industrial revolution was the beginning of all the technology we have today.
