Face/Off
In all good movies there are conflicts between two characters. Occasionally this conflict is between a good person and a bad person. A excellent example of a situation between good and evil is the main characters in the movie Face/Off. The evil person, Castor Troy, is played by Nicolas Cage and the good character, Sean Archer, is played by John Travolta. Castor Troy is a well known felon who has hidden a bomb that will release deadly poison. Sean Archer is a talented officer whose son was killed six years earlier by Castor. This background information will help you understand how different these characters are.
Both Castor and Archer are very popular with the people they work with, but in two entirely different ways. Because of the many scandals that Troy had performed and gotten away with, felons admired and respected him. Sean is also highly appreciated, but by the opposite type of people. He is looked up to by his fellow officers and good citizens because they value his hard work and good job of capturing criminals. Both of these characters' hard work is a direct result of their personalities.
There is only one thing that keeps Sean Archer alive, his determination to get revenge on Castor Troy. He is a very uptight and unhappy man and will stop at nothing to capture Troy. Castor, on the other hand, is very laid-back and he jokes about everything. There is only one thing that Troy cares about, his little brother, Pollax. He will kill anyone else who gets in his way.
Both characters have a special person whom they love more than anything in the world. Archer loves his little boy, who was murdered by Castor Troy. Killing the murderer of his son is the only thing Archer lives for. Troy's loved one is his little brother. Castor pays people large amounts of money to protect his brother from any danger.
In the movie it seems as though Sean Archer and Castor Troy are two entirely opposite characters. But, after analyzing them, I have realized that they have a lot of similarities. Both are very popular and highly respected, and both care strongly about one special person.
